|The Fairfax Chamber’s Government Contracting (GovCon) Council is the Chamber’s largest and most active council. This group alone facilitates more than 20 programs annually, and is the region’s best forum for engagement with Northern Virginia’s robust government contracting community.
Always ahead of the curve, the GovCon Council kicked off 2012 by convening a Symposium on Innovating in the Uncertain Environment. This half-day session featured a keynote by a respected economist and breakout sessions on timely topics like the M&A Environment, Compliance Trends, Budget Priorities and more. This signature program, slated again for February 2013, featured more than 20 C-level executives on the breakout session panels and attracted 500 attendees from the government contracting sector.
Recognizing that the ties between the government contracting sector and the nation’s military are close and solid, the GovCon Council embarked on a Veterans Hiring Symposium in 2012. The innovative dual-track program looked at the issue of Veteran’s hiring from both sides of the coin, offering sessions for Veterans to learn more about transitioning into the private sector and for corporate professionals to delve into designing or boosting a Veteran’s hiring program. This important program, which attracted nearly 50 Veterans and more than 200 from the corporate community, will take shape again in July 2013 to serve those who have served our nation so selflessly by providing them with resources for employment.
The GovCon Council also honored those who have served with the Distinguished Service Awards presented to Rear Admiral David R. Oliver, Jr., US Navy (Ret), and General John Tilelli, US Army (Ret) just days after Memorial Day. The keynote address was provided by Former National Security Advisor General James L. Jones.
Other programming areas of focus for the GovCon Council include: Mergers & Acquisitions, Cyber Security, Business Development, Proposal Writing, Teaming & Subcontracting and much more.
