ABOUT THE INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS COUNCIL

With convenient access to three major airports, a regional market of more than 6 million people and proximity to the U.S. government, Fairfax County has become a premier international business community for commerce and technology. Nowhere is this more evident than on the local business scene. Of the more than 700 companies in the Greater Washington area that are affiliated with a firm headquartered outside the U.S., 362 of those companies are located in Fairfax County.

The growing globalization of the business community in Fairfax County presents key opportunities for local companies. These opportunities also come with real challenges. In 2004, the Fairfax County Chamber of Commerce launched the International Business Council (IBC), which is designed to:

  • Connect international companies with ties to the Greater Washington region

  • Advocate on behalf of international businesses/interests

  • Educate & inform the business community about international business

  • Represent the Chamber’s increasingly diverse membership

  • Provide value rich programs and services and expand international relationships

Mission
To engage the international business community in Northern Virginia and promote international business development opportunities for Chamber members.

Membership
IBC involvement is open to any company, organization or individual within the Chamber. Members receive notifications of all IBC and other international events in the Metropolitan region through weekly electronic Doing Business. Members also have the opportunity to become the leaders of IBC through sponsorship of its Council.

Check the events calendar for upcoming IBC programs and activities or contact Lisa Huffman at 703-752-7528 or email lhuffman@fairfaxchamber.org, for more information.
