| Northern Virginia Business Community Appauds General Assembly for Making Right Decision for Virginia by Ensuring Sustainable Transportation Funding |
| Published Sunday, February 24, 2013 |
Tysons Corner, Va. – The Virginia General Assembly voted yes on a sustainable transportation funding package. Fairfax County Chamber of Commerce (Fairfax Chamber) President & CEO Jim Corcoran made the following statement:
“The Fairfax Chamber, on behalf of the Northern Virginia business community, applauds and thanks the members of the General Assembly for making the right decision for Virginia by ensuring much-needed transportation funding for the Commonwealth and Northern Virginia. It was extremely positive to see Republicans and Democrats from across the Commonwealth come together to solve the state’s transportation crisis.
Today is truly a historic day for Virginia. For the first time in more than two decades, the Commonwealth has the sustainable transportation funding it needs to continue on its path of economic success.
Through the bill passed today, Phase II of Dulles Rail, a critical project in Northern Virginia, will not only come to completion, but will do so without dramatic increases in the tolls on the Dulles Toll Road. This and other transportation improvements will greatly enhance the quality of life for our citizens and make our region even more attractive for businesses and their employees.
Two months ago, the attitude from some was that a transportation funding solution was a non-starter and it wouldn’t happen this session, but the Fairfax Chamber, in partnership with our elected leaders, many other groups around the state, businesses and citizens, persevered. This was the number one issue championed by the Chamber and the Northern Virginia business community this session, and one that we are proud to see through.
The Fairfax Chamber especially thanks Governor McDonnell for his leadership on this critical issue, and looks forward to his signing of this bill into law.”
